COASTAL HIGHWAY SONORA BAJA CALIFORNIA

The Coastal highway is open although not official. Millions of people just got a lot closer to Puerto Penasco. The road is paved all the way and it is a very good quality road. You can now drive all the way to El Golfo from Rocky Point in about 1 hour and 15 mintues. Better yet Yuma can make it to Rocky Point in about 2 1/2 hours. El Centro, CA. about 3 1/2, and San Diego about 5 1/4 hours.

MAHI MAHI FISHING TOUR IN ROCKY POINT

Dorado (Mahi Mahi) just happens to be my favorite kind of fish, and I will be on the boat, so you better be, too! We will be accompanied by a seasoned tour guide about 15 miles south, and fish till our heart's content...

ROCKY POINT CHRISTMAS CHARITY HELP

We need help packing bags for this year's Rocky Point Christmas charity event! Below are details from Mary Snyder on how you help!

Date: Thurs Dec 11th Time: 11 am (right after the AMPI meeting)Place: Miguel's warehouse
Directions: From the stop light at Calle 13 and Luis Encinas (old Realty Execs office), go north (toward Mr Rocky's) 2 blocks and turn left, go 1 block.

Can't miss it..it's rust with cantera stone, on the corner. Dress warm if it's cold with comfy shoes. Last yr we finished in about 4 hrs with about 35 people.

This year we're doing 1500 bags instead of 1000, so help us find as many people as we can. It was a fun time and completely rewarding. Please help us give back!

Pizza and drinks will be provided.

THERE'S SOME TRUTH IN THIS, TOO

For those who are "confused" about how a bail out works,--below is a simplifed explanation that will aid you in understanding what is going on...

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died."
Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back."
The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

DINNER AT THE POINT

Forget about beach or water front dining, this restaurant is ON the water in the Old Port, on the Malecon...Gus and I went and had a fabulous meal there last night and chatted up Jose Palacio. He's got some good ideas for the restaurant, so stay tuned for news and specials!

The atmosphere makes the perfect setting for a romantic date night - the service was good, and we had great meal. It started with shrimp chimichangas, which were the perfect combo of lightly crunchy phyllo dough, with juicy shrimp, cheese, and veggies inside. The chipotle cream sauce added a touch of sweetness and spice.

For the main, I had the Pollo Todos Santos, which was excellent from presentation to final bite - a chicken breast was stuffed with cheese, almonds, and spinach and the whole thing was covered in bacon. The chipotle sauce that I loved from the chimis was poured over the top, and the dish was completed with REAL mashed potatoes (chunky, like I like them) and a perfectly steamed combo of veggies: carrots, zucchini, and broccoli.

I had an excellent Chilean chardonnay - crisp citrus layered with a flowery scent on the nose, a buttery smooth texture that developed into a crisp, slightly dry citrus flavor that finished a little tannic, but complemented the dish well.

Our dessert was a rich little mocha pie. It was supported by an almost oreo chocolatey crust with a mocha ice cream center topped off with REAL whipped cream (by real, I mean they actually whipped the cream) and a cherry.

All in all, it was a great meal with great company and I will be heading back there for another date night with my honey soon!

I don't know why I haven't blogged about the Teleton, the largest charity event that goes on here in Mexico in December - I think it might be over, but you can still donate on their website: http://www2.teleton.org.mx/evento-teleton/

Here's the general idea of the great things that the Teleton does:

"Telethon is a project of national unity, which, through the values like love, generosity and solidarity, has managed to summon all of Mexico with the firm intention of promoting a better quality of life for children and youth with disabilities.

Teleton represents an opportunity to renew confidence in people and in institutions, symbolizes the unity and commitment of various sectors of society around this social cause."

So far, they've raised $442,974,150 pesos!

El Sombrero on 13th street moved right across the street (the old JR's building) and they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - I think this is the only restaurant in town that's open 24/7...not that I know what the food tastes like, or whether the service is good or not, (and I probably never will) if you're brave enough, try it and tell me how it is!
