Chango's (the ONLY sports bar on Sandy Beach) just gave me a TON of Chango's chips - tokens good for free beer - woo hoo! I'll be passing them out at will, so when you see me, ask me for one!
BE PREPARED TO LAUGH - LAST GIGGLES OF 2008
Ok, if you've ever been to Sea Fari and had to use the restroom, I apologize. Lea and I assigned the guys bathroom duty, and to them that just means to replace the empty toilet paper roll when the women tell them to do so.
Just to let you know that as of today, we're one bottle of anti bacterial soap away from almost having a normal bathroom - I scrubbed the toilet so I could sit down on it! I put bleach, then fabuloso, then some other scary chemical I can't pronounce...when I saw the seat melting from chemical burns, I thought "that's good enough" and wiped the foaming, sparking concoction off, and so far, I have no weird rash on my back side.
I also flushed with my hand for the first time...strange, I know, but there were spots of some unGodly substance on it...now, thanks to non FDA "approved for household or office use" chemicals that they probably clean the space ships with, we have a half way clean bathroom!!!
Feel free to sit down next time, if need be...

GET YOUR LAUGH ON...
This is undeniably the FUNNIEST thing I have heard, and will hear all day:
"...oh sh**, I flew to Wellington for a week, talk about party...I danced till dawn, fell out of a club at daylight, got half an hours sleep in two days, lost my voice completely for 2 day, just air comming out, so funny..."
If your NYE party binge doesn't sound something like this (and you're under 50) you aren't having enough fun!
*Big ups to New Zeland, who sees the New Year before ANY of us...it's been called "tomorrowland" more than once!* Love you Michele!

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Locals,
I'm sure you've noticed that we've been invaded to a small degree by these seemingly immune-to-the-cold humans. Well, never fear, they're not infected or super human or anything...they're from the NORTH! I know, I know, I didn't want to believe it either. I encountered some of the skantily clad homo sapiens donned in tank tops, flip flops, and shorts; oh my! and they are actually very nice and laughed at me because I was sitting on top of the space heater with ice cicles hanging from my nose, typing with gloves on. I think it's totally normal for this frigid time of year.
Stay tuned today for every New Year's Eve party in Rocky Point!
xoxo,
MYN

SEAFARI NEEDS YOUR HELP!
If you or anyone you know is a boat engine mechanic, please please forward this on to them, Sea Fari needs you!
I have 2 BF150 hondas. The other day we ran out of the harbor 28 miles and the motor ran like a champ. We stopped and anchored and when we got ready to leave the motor would only crank. Checked everything, bit no start. I took it to a certified Honda mechanic and he checked everything. Compression is perfect, fuel pressure, high and low perfect as well. Has fire and getting fuel. Still no start. Swapped brains, crank sensor, and several other sensors. Nothing. The alt. light at the helm doesn't come on either. Fuses are good and found no probs. in the wiring. If you throttle it up it will start but no idle. It die's. At a loss. Can anyone give any suggestions??
Please please email me at mynparty@yahoo.com.mx or Mike Miller at mmiller567@yahoo.com if you know what's going on with the motor!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
There's this on going debate about Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas, and I hear the readers that gave me flack for saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" and I will break it down for you...
I was raised in a Christian household, and I am very accustomed to saying Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays. I was in school when they took out "...under God..." in our daily pledge of alligiance, I was there when they stopped our morning prayer, so I know the angst it caused among some parents, children, etc.
I really am very thankful for the time I lived in Los Angeles, (a melting pot of cultures, religions, backgrounds, and races) because it taught me tolerance and acceptance. I have very dear Jewish friends, I have very dear Catholic friends, my family is Baptist, I have friends that are more spiritual, I know people that only celebrate Kwanzaa, some that don't celebrate holidays at all...
I say Happy Holidays to reach the span of my multi religion circle of friends that I care for.
Frankly, it's easier than saying Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukka, Feliz Navidad, and the plethora of other winter/year end greetings or salutations there are.
What do YOU say, and why? Email me: mynparty@yahoo.com.mx or vote on the poll to the right ----->

COASTAL HIGHWAY PUERTO PENASCO - EL GOLFO HIGHWAY INAUGURATION
I must thank Sea Side Reservations for letting me tag along with them to the inauguration for the Coastal Highway that will connect Puerto Penasco with southern California on Thursday. I haven't ever been to anything like this before, and what an experience I had!
We were situated ON the Coastal Highway right where it intersects with the road to Benito Juarez. The Policia Federal were there decked out in their handsome uniforms directing traffic to either side. When the governer and his appointments arrived, they arrived in style - a big motor coach with the crest of Sonora emblazened on the side.
I got the opportunity to sit in the front row for the event, right down from Oscar Palacio, the director of OOMISLIM, and other big wigs of Rocky Point, so I felt like a VIP. When the bus was approaching, I couldn't help but feel slight butterflies in my stomach because the energy was so anxious. There was a crowd of about 200 (could have been more) and everyone was excited to hear what they had to say.
When Governer Bours and his entourage desembarked, about 50 paparrazi like photogs came out of the wood work and horded around him and his crew. I couldn't believe it! I felt like I was on Robertson Blvd in LA and the photogs were after a celebrity - you see the flashes and the camera men, but you don't see who they're after!
I just knew that I thought I'd know him when I saw him, but I assumed that well, (as cliche as this is) he'd be taller. Nevertheless, he was shaking hands here and there, and for some odd reason, I thought he wouln't shake mine. Maybe because I'm not Mexican, because I'm not really super inportant in the community? For a million reasons, but he looked right at me and stuck his hand out, so I did the same and managed to choke out a meager "Mucho gusto." I could've said "Feliz Cumpleanos" since it was, after all, his birthday. Just something that could have meant a little more. Well, next time...
After the Mariachi finished their birthday songs and warm words of well wishes, he sat down on the stage with the rest of the members of his group. Before I could stop beating myself up about my weak attempt at a formal greeting to the Governer of Sonora, I noticed that I really couldn't see the stage at all. I was on the front row, yes, but there were about 20 photographer's rear ends a mere foot and a half from my face. They wanted to see him too; but more than I, I assume. So much for our great seats.
The speeches the men of Sonora gave were direct and very informative. I learned about the actual material used to construct the highway as well as its dimensions. See my follow up post with the facts. Gov. Bours gave an uplifting speech that spoke right to the hearts of the people, and touched mine, too. He talked about how he "...doesn't care about the the high rise condo towers, or the expensive hotels just to be there to look good..." but that his main concern is the people. After all, it's the everyday Joes that are the backbone of any country. He spoke of paving streets and all the infrastructure that will continue to be implemented: water, sewage systems, electricity, etc.
After a quick snip of the red ribbon, he swiftly made his way back to his motor coach but not before shaking some more hands on his way out. I really feel that he does care very much for this town, and for the tourism aspect. He knows that with more tourism in Rocky Point, more business is created, more jobs for the unemployed, especially in these tough times.
I will be anticipating more great things during his time in office, and I will read up and go to more of these events so that I can get you news on the cutting edge! Stay tuned for pictures and a follow up post this week...

PREPARE TO LAUGH
A burglar broke into a Christian Family's home one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables; when he heard, a strange voice echoing from the dark saying, 'Jesus is watching you.'
He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. After awhile when he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as abell he heard, "Jesus is watching you."
Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice and finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.
"Did you say that?" he whispered to the parrot."Yep," the parrot squawked, "I'm just trying to warn you."The burglar relaxed. "Warn me, huh? And what is your name?"
"Moses," replied the bird."Moses?" the burglar laughed. "What kind of people would name a bird Moses?"
"The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler, Jesus."

TIS THE SEASON AND TIMES ARE TOUGH
Besides the news report I saw about having packages stolen off front porches, this is something I think is great to do. Thanks Bill Barvitski!
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neig hbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there ..... This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT BAR CRAWL
Wow! Did we have a blast last night or what?! I'm sure everyone is just now getting moving, I know I am!!
We hit Chiltepino's and had their famous tequila in cucumber cups - don't let the mellow cucumber fool ya - they'll get cha! I hadn't eaten dinner so I ordered a hamburger - I was FLOORED. It was $45 pesos ($4.50) and I must say, it was the best hamburger I've had in a long time. Sorry Randy, but this one (price included) is just better!
By the time we got outta there, (I have to be more strict on the one hour thing next time) everyone was ready to see what the Thirsty Parrot had for us...their welcome shot, the Tropical Hooter was one of those shots that was sweet and tangy, but you know they'll lay you out! After that, we enjoyed $1 off everything in the house, and there were about 4 trays of pupu's going around - the lobster crisps, nachos, pizza...it was all delish!
We had so much fun, and it was so late by the time we looked at our watches again (I promise on the one hour thing) that we didn't make it to Shark Bite before they closed down the Malecon...
If you missed this bar crawl, I sure am sorry - you can catch the train next time around, though - I think I'm going to shoot for the end of January, so stay tuned!

ROCKY POINT'S THIRSTY PARROT $5 SPECIALS
Who knew that a Carribbean restaurant could serve the hands down BEST chiles rellenos I've ever had? (Sorry to that little restaurant in Mexico City...) I had a fabulous late lunch that stuck to my ribs for the rest of the day at the Thirsty Parrot on the Malecon:
It started out with a salad like I've never had, it was fresh, crunchy, and so tasty that it really doesn't even need dressing. It's a refreshing mix of lettuces, corn, black olives, tomatoes, and REAL (and by real I mean it's probably from the wheel, if not a big ol wedge) shaved parmesean cheese. If you toss it up just right, you get the perfect mix of sweet corn, silky olives, juicy tomatoes, and the salty tang of parm cheese. Delish!
The chiles rellenos beat everything I had ever thought about chiles rellenos to shame. I was lunching with Marco, a chilango through and through, and HE gave his #1 stamp of approval, in case you don't believe this gringa...
They were perfectly battered - not too much, not too little and stuffed with cheese. The salsa is what made them, though - it was of course tomato based, with slight nuances of garlic and onion, but you'd really have to savor it (like I did) to even catch it. It was the slightest bit spicy, which gave it the dish a wonderful heat. The poblanos were super fresh and crunchy, the cheese perfectly melted on the inside, the salsa - just yum. All the way around, handz down to the ground, the best chiles rellenos I've ever had. The rice that accompanied it was perfectly cooked, and seasoned so well you could eat it by itself (or I could anyway) and the beans also were so flavourful with a hint of bacon, they just melted in my mouth (though they were refried)
The whole meal was fab, and I can't wait for it to be Monday again - can you believe this great meal only cost me $5?! Neither could I...

LADIES NIGHT AT THRISTY PARROT
I can't believe more girlies didn't go to LADIES NIGHT at the Thirsty Parrot last night! Maybe because there were other parties going on, but come ON!
Next week, I will physically drag and force, so watch out - I might kidnap you.
Next weekend will be a doozy (my new word of the week) Thursday is Ladies Night, Friday is MYN's first bar crawl - stay tuned for more info on THAT plus your personal invite from yours truely...
