ROCKY POINT BLOGGER DOWN!

(sniff sniff) Hey everyone,

We caught a nasty flu bug of some sort, and it knocked us down! :( Beware if you wake up with a sore throat and don't do anything about it - NO, it will not go away. Day #2 isn't pretty...we're out of commission today (cough cough) and laying (more like writhing and being uncomfortable) in bed.

Being sick is about the most unglamourous thing in the world. We'll be back to normal very soon, though!

POLITICS

We read this morning that Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor!

The 76-year-old
was rushed to the hospital this past weekend with what family members thought was a stroke but ended up being a seizure caused by the malignant growth in his brain.

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It's a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

Let's all keep him in our thoughts...

KEEPING UP WITH THE ECONOMY

NEW YORK - Wall Street tumbled Tuesday after oil prices spiked to a new record above $129 a barrel and a government report raised investors' concerns about the impact of inflation on consumer spending. The Dow Jones industrials fell nearly 200 points...

A HEARTFELT POEM...

A Part Of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today

And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call... of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died...

AZ COPS

We just received this from Cathie Buckmister, a dear friend of ours in Mesa, AZ:

Hi everyone!
Today (May 15) is Peace Officers Memorial Day. It is the day that we honor the Fallen Peace Officers we lost during 2007. This year we are honoring Glendale P.D. Officer Anthony Jon Holly E.O.W. 2/19/2007, Mohave Co. Deputy Philip Rodriguez E. O. W. 4/21/2007, Phoenix P.D. Officer George Cortez E.O.W. 7/27/2007, Phoenix P.D. Officer Nicki James Erfle E.O.W. 9/18/2007, and Casa Grande P.D. Officer Sgt. Tate Lynch E.O.W. 10/25/2007. These brave men gave their lives along with 182 other Heroes throughout the United States last year. Sadly this year we have already lost 37 who will be honored at next year's ceremonies.
I couldn't make it to Police Week this year, but there are over 1,400 family members who are in attendance and have been to a candlelight vigil on Monday night, where their loved ones names were read, and now etched on the Memorial Wall. They have been to the Capitol Lawn and heard the President speak and honor their loved ones heroism. They are attending many seminars on grieving, and recieving tremendous support by counselors who donate their time just for them. More importantly, they are meeting other survivors who like themselves have suffered a loss they never thought they would have to bear, and making friends for life.
The next time you see a Police Officer, Border Patrol Agent, FBI Agent or any of those that serve and protect us, tell them thank you. They might not make it home that night to kiss thier loved ones again. And they will appreciate that you took the time to thank them.

ROCKY POINT LITERATURE

Here's a brand new catagory for your entertainment pleasure...we wrote a poem yesterday and want to share it with you all:

Sailboat sailing the Sea
Breeze blowing freely
Leisurely
Day at the beach
Yet peace of mind is out of my reach
Turmoil and struggle
With a backdrop of a perfect scenery.
Sea of Cortez
Lends its ear to me
Trying to think of the possibility
Of life improving
When will be my time
Sea - please send me a sign
Struggle and trouble
In this most perfect place
Finances, life's largest set-back
World wide economic slump
But the "world's aquarium" right in front
The anticipation of a break in the clouds
Hovering bringing the
Stifiling humidity like clockwork
A season of swelter until it breaks
When is OUR relief?
Pain in paradise is this oxymoron, twilight zone
Which we call home.

What do you think??

NASTY VIRUS ON THE LOOSE!

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Norton Anti-Virus is gearing up for this virus. Snopes (URL above) says it's for real!! (it's ranked #2 at Snopes as of 4/27/08 as a real virus threat) Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP. You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do no t ope n it!

Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

GOOD MORNING ROCKY POINT!

Dick Cheney and George W. Bush are having breakfastat the White House. The attractive waitress asks Cheney what he wouldlike and he replies, 'I'd like a bowl of oatmeal and some fruit.''

"And what can I get for you, Mr. President?"

George W looks up from his menu and replies with his trademark wink and slight grin, 'How about a quickie this morning?''

"Why, Mr. President!" the waitress exclaims, "how rude! You're starting to act like President Clinton," and the waitress storms away.

Cheney leans over to Bush and whispers.......... 'It's pronounced quiche.

SOME GOOD NEWS!

From Ken Millar of Re/Max Alliance:

In regards to RE in AZ, I’d say that our “number of transactions” count in Maricopa is trending up; one report comparing March 08 to Feb. 08 showed a 27% improvement and a high compared to the previous 6 months. No one is taking the position that they have any pricing power yet and in fact, the median prices for homes is still slipping while not as much as before.

The units sold trend is encouraging that maybe we will start to see real improvement through the balance of ’08.

Encouraging!!

CELEBS IN AZ FOR A GREAT CAUSE...

Allison Dubois from Medium and Cathie Buckmister
Richie, Cathie, Nick Nicholson (country western star) and Nick's manager

From http://www.thebuckmrs.blogspot.com/

AZ C.O.P.S. Event
On April 26th 2008 AZ Concerns of Police Survivors had a Charity Benefit featuring Nashville Recording Artist Nick Nicholson and Allison Dubois of the NBC show "Medium". The REAL Allison Dubois! We had a great time, and Nick and Allison were very generous with their time, and we raised alot of money for our Chapter. It was great meeting them, and Allison brought a LADMO Bag to auction off, she actually paid $200 for the bag and donated it to us. Aaron was the one she "selected", and said it was Brett that had arranged the whole thing. I know he was there with us and enjoyed the evening as well. It was a night worth remembering, and I am personally grateful to both of them for their generosity!

LET THEM EAT CAKE...
