DINNER AT THE POINT

Forget about beach or water front dining, this restaurant is ON the water in the Old Port, on the Malecon...Gus and I went and had a fabulous meal there last night and chatted up Jose Palacio. He's got some good ideas for the restaurant, so stay tuned for news and specials!

The atmosphere makes the perfect setting for a romantic date night - the service was good, and we had great meal. It started with shrimp chimichangas, which were the perfect combo of lightly crunchy phyllo dough, with juicy shrimp, cheese, and veggies inside. The chipotle cream sauce added a touch of sweetness and spice.

For the main, I had the Pollo Todos Santos, which was excellent from presentation to final bite - a chicken breast was stuffed with cheese, almonds, and spinach and the whole thing was covered in bacon. The chipotle sauce that I loved from the chimis was poured over the top, and the dish was completed with REAL mashed potatoes (chunky, like I like them) and a perfectly steamed combo of veggies: carrots, zucchini, and broccoli.

I had an excellent Chilean chardonnay - crisp citrus layered with a flowery scent on the nose, a buttery smooth texture that developed into a crisp, slightly dry citrus flavor that finished a little tannic, but complemented the dish well.

Our dessert was a rich little mocha pie. It was supported by an almost oreo chocolatey crust with a mocha ice cream center topped off with REAL whipped cream (by real, I mean they actually whipped the cream) and a cherry.

All in all, it was a great meal with great company and I will be heading back there for another date night with my honey soon!
