I have some not so goog news about one of my favorite restaurants in town, I hate to say it...
Some friends of mine went to Regina's the other day for their breakfast buffet and said that the food and service was horrible!
I've personally loved their food since first bite, and the service was never anything to jump up and down about, but not even getting something to drink?! That's unacceptable.
I'd just say stay away from the buffet...

ROCKY POINT SOFTBALL TEAM

I went to Caborca last weekend and invited my brother to bring his softball team to Penasco to play against us so we need to practice and we need to get a team together for the time these guys come to be beaten!

Cruising the Sea of Cortez will be another draw to Puerto Peñasco, where construction on a massive port to accommodate cruise ships is set to begin next year. "The home port will be similar to those in Miami or San Diego," said Epifanio Salido Pavlovich, director of the Sonora Office of Tourism. He said Holland America - which last week made its inaugural sailing to the new Port of Guaymas - has agreed to sail four- to seven-day cruises originating and ending at a home port in Puerto Peñasco, with two to five stops along the route. Salido said the port will be ready to receive its first ship in about three years.
When the port project is finished within about five years, as many at 200 cruises a year could be offered from the Puerto Peñasco cruise ship terminal, Salido said. He said officials plan to approach other major cruise lines to complement the service offered by Holland America. The project is being funded by Mexican government and private investors. Initially, the state of Sonora is spending about $15 million to jump-start the project, said Jesus Fontes, planning director for the state tourism agency. He said the total cost has not been calculated, since the design has yet to be developed.
The cruise-port plan comes as other transportation improvements are under way. The new Puerto Peñasco airport is expected to open in the spring, and the highway to San Luis Rio Colorado later in 2009, Salido said. Improvements also are being made to the Lukeville Port of Entry, the re-entry point into the United States from the main road to Puerto Peñasco. Construction of a private hospital, catering to U.S. baby boomers, is also under consideration.

Hello all – apparently Rene’s friend, Leon, has arranged for us to have the lighted field (and I think there is only the one we used to play on) on Wednesday 6 – 8 PM. So, you have plenty of time to figure this out.
Our goal really is to play with adults. We really have enough on our own email list if we all showed up…we need more women too! Invite people to join us too.
So, mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 29th 6PM. See you next week!

ROCKY POINT SOFTBALL LEAGUE
There is finally, officially a co-ed softball team! THEY NEED MORE WOMEN PLAYERS! They have been playing Wednesday evenings at 6PM and have now arranged for a lighted field. They play at the baseball field behind the main baseball field off Benito Juarez and No Reeleccion (Calle 26) [across from Mariposa]. They'll be there Wednesday, October 29th.
The weather is perfect, it is lots of fun and great exercise.
Let Phyllis "The Information Station" LeFevreknow if you are interested. If you have a glove, bring it, if you don’t sometimes they have extras. If you have a bat, bring it too.

AN OLDIE BUT A GOODIE
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass, doing drugs, while I work. Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'.

7am class - Hip hop aerobics

5pm class - Hip hop choreography (for ages up to 12)
6pm class - Hip hop choreography (for ages 12 and up)

6pm class - Hip hop aerobics/choreography mix
The choreography classes will be co-ed (I think) and will have an exhibition show at the end of every month. Classes will be cumulative, so it's reccommended that you sign up at the beginning of each month and follow through till the end!

UNCOMMON WOMEN ON COMMON GROUND

Wow, who knew painting over graffiti could be so fun! We finished our wall next to the Montaña School in record time and then we were on a mission to find more walls to paint. We decided the bathrooms next to the sport court was a good option. Catharine & Terry decided to clean up another wall off the baseball field. Heidi was the finisher! I guess you could say we felt pretty accomplished.
Many thanks to those who showed up with paint brush, roller & tray in hand. Thanks to Eloy Gonzalez for his work to clean up our city, along with the people from the Municipal Institute for Youth who brought us the paint, Scott McLaughlin for being our official before and after photographer and Juan Carlos at Paladar Habana Vieja Restaurant for feeding and entertaining us.
I’m attaching a few photos for you to enjoy and know others have more to share.
Eloy will let us know when other areas are in need and we can just show up when they have other times set up to paint. We donated all our supplies so they will be available for the next event.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 11th at Jill’s new location at the Costa Brava building in the Old Port , Consign & Design. Details to follow…

DEBBIE'S PLACE - IN THE OLD PORT
I know, I know...I try to keep my loyalty to my friends, but we went up to Debbie's today, and it's pretty cool! (sorry Randy) I think we're going on Thursday or Friday for lunch - I'll report back with how it goes!

ROCKY POINT GOSSIP - BIT BY BIT
Well, I must say, it's been a while since I've heard so many bits of info in one day - sheesh! Here it is:
-Portofino (the only "Italian" restaurant in town) is moving to where Harborview Restaurant used to be - right next door to Hacienda (better have all your taxes in order!) painted on the building as of now, it says Tropical Pizzas
-Tenshi Sushi and Vaquero's are moving to Mision del Mar - I think this is great because it's going to give the plaza some more oomph!
-There are whisperings of a new event on Saturday nights at Blue Buddha - stay tuned!
-There also might be a new event at Penasco del Sol, it's in the works, and I can't say anything till the ribbon cutting - dang it....
-On the serious side, I heard some (is disturbing the word?) news about Las Palomas and Esmerelda, but I won't say anything till I hear it from a closer source. That whole gossip from a gossip from a friend of someone's cousin that heard a phone conversation isn't exactly my idea of truth or fact!

Hace mucho tiempo que no escribi chismes aqui, pero ayer era el dia de los chismes! Aqui estan:
-Portofino (el unico restaurante "Italiano" en Puerto Penasco) van a mover al edifico a lado de Hacienda (espero que todos los impuestos estan en orden!) El lugar tiene "Tropical Pizzas" pintada en la pared ahorita
-Tenshi Sushi y Vaquero's van a mover a la Plaza Mision del Mar, creo que es bueno porque me gusta Mision del Mar, pero casi no hay nada!
-Oi algo de un nuevo evento en el Blue Buddha los sabados!
-Tambien hay algo (quizas) nuevo en Penasco del Sol, pero no puedo decir nada hasta todo esta en orden...chiiiiin
-Sinceriamente, oi unas noticias (puedo decir malisimas?) sobre Las Palomas y Esmerelda...no voy a decir nada sobre estos chimes porque asi son y nada mas - chismes! De la boca de un amigo de su primo que escucho alguien por telefono que estaba limpiando unas oficinas - no son factos verdaderos, entonces, hasta ya se seguramente, no voy a decir nada mas!
Checalo mas tarde para mas chismes (ojala) y mas noticias!

However, these are experienced landlords, unlike the many novices we saw during the boom. Savvy home-buyers, especially first-timers, are scooping up the bargains as well. The lowest-priced homes are getting snapped up. While many of the homes fall under the foreclosure umbrella, buyers are "performing the liquidator function, restoring the value of underperforming assets." BIKINI BEACH ROCKY POINT
So there's a new bar in the Mirador where MOAB used to be...seriously, those burgers were NOT good at all...it's called Bikini Beach, right across from Manny's - stay tuned for pics of this new dig!
UNCOMMON WOMEN ON COMMON GROUND - OCTOBER MEETING
Hello all – just a reminder we are meeting tomorrow at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, October 14th at Plaza de la Madre in front of the baseball field off Calle 26 (No Reeleccion) to drive to our location to paint the needed wall in the children’s sports area. I had said to bring your paint brush, but my painter said a roller is quicker and faster. So, bring your tool to be part of the community beautifying project.
Also, we have been invited for dinner at Palade Habana Viejas, the Cuban Restaurant in town, to enjoy a dinner following our work. They have also invited the dancers to entertain us this evening (bring your tip money). A dinner buffet is available for only $10 or $100 pesos with a cash bar.

MYN + HIP HOP DANCE
If you didn't already know, I love to cut a rug. I mainly jam to hip hop and mainstream pop music, but you also know I LOVE Hed Kandi and the whole OM Lounge movement. In the spirit of winter working out, I've decided to start teaching a hip hop dance class at Daniela's studio starting November 1st!
At 9am, I will be doing hip hop aerobics to get you going for the day while getting a great cardio workout and learn some new moves. In the afternoon (hopefully at 6) I'll be teaching a choreographed hip hop class...my plan is to take each class at the end of the month and do an exhibition show somewhere!

DRIVING AROUND ROCKY POINT OBSERVATIONS
Observation #1: Mamacita's moved to 13th street...yuck, but well - at least all the seethy (MYN hybrid word seething and seedy) places are on one street!
Observation #2: A corny looking bar called Diana's is open next door to the Boo Bar - it was empty, and will probably stay that way...
Observation #3: Chiltepino's in the Old Port is closed! :( if you have a jonsing for wings, the Boo Bar's are awesome!!

PENASCO HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION
We now have a Penasco Healthcare Foundation, a non-profit organization with the goal to provide state of the art, quality medical care which will be internationally accreditated and a blood bank. Another aim si to increase tourism to our paradise.
They are having their first fundraiser/meet and greet the board members, hear more about the foundation, and enjoy the evening.

ROGER CLYNE AND THE PEACEMAKERS CONCERT
I have to admit it - we didn't go! After Thursday's lunch date turning into a rock star session, then Friday's Blue Buddha binge, we just needed a good night's sleep - so we (gasp) skipped the concert...I haven't heard anything about what happened (you know there's ALWAYS drama) but then again, all the concert goers are probably still asleep!
