PUERTO PENASCO IS SAFE - TOWN MEETING TODAY AT 4

Hey all,

Just a quick reminder that our next Uniting Peñasco Meeting on Thursday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in the auditorium across from City Municipal Building. The State of Sonora has a new Secretary of Tourism, Luis Carlos Soto, who will be joining us for the meeting. We believe it is very important for everyone to attend this meeting and welcome Mr. Soto as well as let him see that we desire his assistance in helping us promote our great city.

Just as importantly, we will be hearing updates from the committees that have met as to what steps are being taken to deal with the issues we discussed at last month’s meeting.

Please pass the word. I’ve attached the information form for you to pass along to others – we need everyone’s participation. As a dear friend recently reminded me - “Rome wasn’t built in a day” – so we need to persevere but we are making incredible progress.

See you at 4 p.m.!

UNCOMMON WOMEN ON COMMON GROUND

A note from Cathi from the Thirsty Parrot:

Rosie is working hard on getting us a venue for next month and it looks like a great time shaping up for a beach bash in June. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, we would like some input as to your favorite charities. We are tossing some ideas around to host a bingo night to benefit ????????

ROCKY POINT COMMUNITY - COME THROUGH

This is a letter from Rosie Glover about one of our locals, please read, and I will keep you posted!

Dear Friends,

If you have been to the Black Dog, chances are that you know Maria Elena Grajeda Amavizta. This lovely lady has been a fixture at the Black Dog for a long, long time and is loved by many.

Recently Maria Elena was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and a severe kidney problem. In fact, doctors in Hermosillo have determined that it is imperative that she have her kidney removed as soon as possible. Vickie has generously continued to pay her wages during her illness, but something must be done to help pay for the surgery. In times like these, when we all have stuff going on, it’s important to remember that if we have our health, if our family is well, we are blessed. Also, what better way to get in touch with that which is most important than to help another? I’m very proud of being part of this community. You guys always come through.

We are scheduling a dinner at the Black Dog for the purposes of raising funds. Vickie is contributing all the food so that 100% of the money raised will go to pay for the medical expenses. Please join us on Thursday, April 2nd at 4:00pm for a benefit dinner. All drinks will be at Happy Hour prices, Pablo will be singing, and at $20 per person, we can band together and do a good thing. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the ProAlliance office, The Black Dog, or The Rocky Point Times office.

Thank you all.
Rosie Glover

LAZY SUNDAY...

GORP WRAP UP + 4 WEEK HIATUS

Jim gave me huge shout outs in his wrap up letter to all the contributors of the Girls of Rocky Point calendar and crew:

Secondly a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Myaann Roland. Myaann publishes the popular local blog for RP, mynparty.blogspot.com. In addition to being one of our beautiful calendar models, Myaann will also be serving as our local editor and contributor for GORP, as we add more content containing more local news and events not related to the calendar. Myaann worked very hard on the last contest, making it a huge success, and we look forward to working with her on not only the main shoot in April, but on many other future endeavors.

I feel so humbled by this (thanks for spelling my name right!) - I just don't know what to say...stay tuned for more on GORP, Chango's, and the girls...

ANOTHER GREAT BY GK - MYN'S 24TH ON THE 25TH

This Wednesday, March 25th marks the day that a blogger was born...okay, okay, before it turns mushy, lemme just say that I appriciate YOU, my dear reader so much - thank you for all the love and support you've shown me, thanks for passing on my link...thanks for bearing with me when I haven't posted in 3 or 4 days, or I just toss you the weather report to tide you over...thanks for all your comments, your pictures, your advice - it is humbling.

I invite all of you out on Wednesday to Capone's around 9pm, where I will be taking over the bar with my crew from the sunset cruise!

Don't miss it...and if you have to, we're going to do it up on Saturday night, so there's no excues there - haha

Have a super Saturday!

PINK CADILLAC MIRADOR ROCKY POINT

Locals: Remember this oldie but goodie cerca 4 years ago? Pink's (as we so lovingly call it) used to be the only gig in town (besides Sunset Cantina) and now they will soon be on the map again in conjunction with MYN...stay tuned for what I have up my sleeve...

ROCKY POINT IS SAFE AND WE HAVE CLEAN AIR!

Jim Hamblin has been shooting me content at least once a week for the last year, and it's always good stuff! Here is the latest and greatest:

RPT needs to capitalize on its wonderful pure air vs the Valley's worsening bad air. One in 7 residents (per the Am. Lung Assn.) are said to be afflicted by the Brown Cloud and/or the Bad Ozone. I'm one of them, which is why Las Conchas has been my principal residence for the past 9 years. There's a combination of ignorance and denial going on here...the bad air affects folks with allergies, asthma, sinus trouble and more serious pulmonary diseases.Years ago, Andy Chersin publicized his Playa Hermosa (near the Plaza Penasco site) as a "pollen free" escape from the Valley. If you get on their alert list, you can help hammer the point home...and do your readers a favor in the process!
Best,
Jim Hamblin

Now, if you've talked to me in the past week, you've heard my stuffy nose and aweful hacking cough, so I can't exactly say that you DON'T get sick in RP, but it's a whole heck of a lot less than in Phoenix!

Stay tuned for more info...

THE THIRSTY PARROT - ALONZO JAM

Cathi is always cookin up something good at the Thirsty Parrot - this month, she's got Alonzo, master of Reggae, Calypso, and Buffet preforming April 18th and 19th only at the Thirsty Parrot - we always complain there's nothing to do...well, here we go!

You'll be seeing this flyer more than once from now till then, so get ready!

MYN ADVERS

Are you thinking of advertising with MYN? If not, here are 3 reasons you should:

1. MYN has climbed to #1 on Google when you search for Rocky Point blog.
2. I have officially become the Las Palomas concierge starting April 9, so I will have access to SO many more people to send your way, not just on my blog.
3. All referrals I send you can end up being repeat business because I will be promoting MYN online to them as well as your business.

If you want to get your business out there, drop me a line: mynparty@yahoo.com.mx

ROCKY POINT WEATHER

It seems that it's warming up - finally! Here is our Rocky Point weather report for today

ROCKY POINT RESTAURANTS

Here are 3 great family oriented restaurants that you and your family will be safe from the spring break crazies:

Debbie’s – upper Malecon; traditional Mexican food + Old Port faves like tacos, shrimp cocktails, and shrimp
The Thirsty Parrot – lower Malecon, left had side; the only restaurant in Rocky Point like it! Caribbean themed décor, food, ad drinks – you can’t miss it
Hacienda Las Fuentes – Fremont blvd; traditional Mexican food in a traditional Mexican setting – you will feel like you stepped inside an old Mexican Hacienda. Great kid’s menu selection, too.

*Check back for more restaurant reviews from MYN’s very own restaurant correspondent, Bud – he sent me some great stuff yesterday, and I will be posting as they come through!*

S.W.I.M THE POOL BAR AT BELLA SIRENA

S.W.I.M is open for business with a brand spankin new menu with additions. It’s really coming together as the only green restaurant in town – they use mostly organic ingredients, preservative free when they’re able, and all paper is recyclable, so you know when you eat at S.W.I.M, you’re doing the environment some good! Stay tuned for their Spring Break and summer specials and events coming soon!

PENASCO LUXURY RENTALS

Come to Rocky Point in style, stay at the most elegant resort on Sandy Beach, and have an array of services at your doorstep. Think you have to spend a fortune to live large? You don’t! Check out Puerto Peñasco Luxury Rentals and see for yourself – they even have packages to suit your needs, but that won’t hurt your budget. Pricing is very competitive with the major rental companies in town but here’s the difference: here, you’re a VIP with Peñasco Luxury Rentals, and you get treated like it!
Check out their webpage:
www.penascoluxuryrentals.com

ROCKY POINT IS SAFE - ROCKY POINT TOURISM

I had a meeting with Edgar Padilla, a heavy hitter in town, with three restaurants and Club Catorce. He’s got some excellent marketing ideas for Rocky Point to pull tourism over here and turn the tide a little bit! I hope that I can get MYN in the mix, too. It’s tight lipped, but genius all the same! Stay tuned over the next couple weeks to see how this develops.

A NOTE FROM JIM HAMBLIN ON THE LC BEACH HOME

The beachfront property was built in the 70's by my old friend Don Miller, who hired Guillermo Espino and his fishermen . . . who did a great job. Don and his late wife Sue were responsible for my late wife Suzie and yours truly deciding to buy an old ramshackle beach place in Las Conchas in 1983. Lots of history here...too bad folks don't know how great it STILL is!
Best regards,
Jim Hamblin

A NOTE FROM THE THIRSTY PARROT

HERE'S A HEADS UP PARROTHEADS. COMING IN APRIL. IF WE MADE YOU A FAN OF BRENT BURNS, IF YOU'RE A FAN OF REGGAE, CALYPSO, THE STEEL PAN AND ALL THAT'S BUFFET - YOU WILL LOVE ALONZO. SO MARK YOUR CALENDAR IT'S JUST AROUND THE CORNER

GET YOUR GIGGLE ON

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Richard, the 11 year old next door whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over.

Richard clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, "So, what was wrong?" He replied, "It was an ID ten T error." I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, "An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again." Richard grinned. "Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?" "No," I replied. "Write it down," he said, "and I think you'll figure it out."

So I wrote down: I D 1 0 T I used to like the little !!@#$%*@!!

UNITING PUERTO PEÑASCO

We would like to thank you for attending the first “Uniting Peñasco” meeting on February 26th. It is unfortunate that economic times are challenging us, one and all, but it was incredible to see more than 300 concerned citizens from both sides of the border come together as a united community.

The response on the questionnaires overwhelmingly showed that you are willing to be involved in this endeavor. Your time, money and willingness to serve on committees are essential since there is so much work to do. While the data base, containing the names of those that attended this first meeting, is complete, please continue to spread the word to anyone wanting to be included that was not able to attend. We are attaching additional blank forms that you can print and give to those interested in helping or they can be sent out via email.

Our next general meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 26 at 4pm, again at the auditorium across from city hall. We will present ideas from the various committees.

Thank you in advance for your continued support and involvement.

PAMPER DAY SPA

I had an awesome facial from Pamper Day Spa in town last week! I was chatting up one of the owners, who is from Guadalajara and they’ve got a great thing going over there – she is the skin specialist, her sister is the nail tech, and their mom is the hair stylist – a triple threat! They do everything from eyebrow wax to acrylic nails to a cut n color.

You can seriously go in there and come out totally made over! Stay tuned for their specials and more from them – I’m going to have a massage here pretty soon, and I will fill you in. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is star quality! They’re located on Sinaloa street, right down from the elementary school in a little plaza next door to a computer store.

GIRLS OF ROCKY POINT CONTEST ' RVEL AND SERIOUS ON THE MIC

I can't tell you how thankful I am for my readers:

I always thougth americans were fairly smart, but come to find out there a bunch of sheep being lead to there downfall by the news media. Also it's fact that last year 6000 people were killed and only 18,000 were killed in the good old USA. 3000 killed in Tiajuna last year , 2,700 in L.A not even counting all of orange and san diego county. It only counts if your killed in mexico and you can pass this on!

POST #1534 (WARNING: NOT PG RATED)

Better late than never, but still bullshit all the same:

Hi Again,
It is now too late...Fox News pulled the poll question as soon as the Yes votes tied the NO votes...we were getting ready to overtake the NO votes and they pulled the plug...strange...or maybe they did not want the public to know the real truth about Rocky Point, Mexico. I spoke with Fox News and they had a sorry explanation...but still believe that Mexico is not safe. What fools!
Cindy

This is such crap! I wish there was a census of how many AMERICAN BORN CITIZENS live in Mexico. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't safe - retards...this seriously pisses me off to no end. I would LOVE to find stats on the safety rating of Phoenix and the surrounding area and compare it to Rocky Point...can anyone help me with that???? Drop me a line to contribute: mynparty@yahoo.com.mx

DEBBIE'S RESTAURANT IN THE MALECON

The other day I was sitting at Debbie’s, right next door to Boo Bar in the Malecon, and I felt like I was a tourist having lunch by the sea – I really like this place! The service was excellent, the food was great, and the atmosphere was just a little bit different than everything else on the Malecon. What sold me was the Dallas Cowboys helmet they have behind the bar – I’ll send every Texan I see over there! I had the chile rellenos, and they were super good! The first time I’ve had them covered in egg, the salsa was delish and they were stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Yummy! I will definitely be back for more – it’s the perfect day time upper Malecon restaurant for lunch.

D'MAINTENANCE

Attention Rocky Point condo/home owners:

Do you come down once a month or less? Do you rent your condo out? Are you possibly having trouble keeping your investment maintained? Well, we have the answer for you: the D’Maintenance monthly inspection and exterior cleaning package.

We go to your condo or home once a month and do a full inspection of the interior to make sure all your appliances work, the a/c is in good condition, missing light bulbs or shorts aren’t an issue, and lots more stuff on our long list of items to check. We then send you a monthly report with our findings, and quote you on repairs if need be.

For the exteriors (geared for beach homes and villas) we go twice a month and sweep off your patio(s) wipe down all fixtures and patio furniture to keep the sea breeze from getting to it, and clean your windows so that your beach home is in tip top shape!

Get in touch with us for our full list of services: info@dmaintenance.com

ROCKY POINT IS SAFE

Dear MYN reader,

In light of all the bad press we are getting about Puerto Penasco, I’d like to offer my own bit of insight.

I have lived here for 4 years full time. I moved here (on a 2 month vacay) from Los Angeles, and I just never have gone back to the states. I feel safer here than I ever felt in the states. I would not live here if I didn’t. Check out a map of Rocky Point in relation to Nogales, Tijuana, and Ciudad Juarez. If you’ve ever driven to Rocky Point from Tucson or Phoenix, you know it takes 4 hours. Think of it like this: for us, we are 4 hours in ANY direction – north is AZ, east is Nogales, which actually takes like, 6 hours; south is Hermosillo, west is Mexicali.

The border crossing at Lukeville is almost laughable. There are 3 lanes, 2 of which are hardly EVER open. On the Sonotya side, there are 2. One of which is hardly ever open…it’s the easiest border crossing there is. It’s also one of the few that close!

Penasco is still a safe haven to (quietly) enjoy the beach, a pool somewhere, or the Malecon without worry of hassle or hustle (save for Mayan Palace OPC’s and kids with chicle)

Take into consideration the population of Americans here, as well. We just wouldn’t live here if it wasn’t safe. Yes, if you are in the drug business or are looking for it, you might get mixed up in the riffraff, but is that not true in ANY city in ANY country on the planet??

I’ll get off my soap box now; just know that Rocky Point IS safe!

GIRLS OF ROCKY POINT CALENDAR

The first contest for the Girls of Rocky Point calendar wasn’t all we were expecting, but this Saturday’s will be great! I think we need this extra week to do even MORE promos for it, so get ready to read ALL about it!

LAS PALOMAS BRIDAL EXPO

I went to the first annual Bridal and Quincianera expo at Las Palomas yesterday (here we go with LP) and it was SO amazing! There were so many vendors with so much to offer – everything you’d need to throw the traditional Quincianera party or the perfect beach side wedding. Stay tuned for pictures!

MYN'S WEEKEND

Merry Monday, MYN readers!

I sure do hope that you had a great weekend, as mine has been one of the best ever!

On Saturday, I was running around taking care of (blog) business and stopped by Las Palomas because I know they are trying to promote some things at the restaurants. I ended up having a job interview and I am now the Las Palomas concierge! Can you believe it?! I sort of can’t yet, either – I’m like, finally: a job that is right up my alley, in a place I like, with PEOPLE I like. What more could I ask for? Oh yeah – a salary + major MYN exposure + a chance to go on to something even better. I still have a few butterflies in my stomach.

Needless to say, you might get tired of hearing about Las Palomas, so please tell me when I’ve gone overboard!

I hope that you have a marvelous Monday – stay tuned for more posts…
Xoxo,

MYN
